Windows XP: Restore Automatic Updates after database corruption
While reviewing the event logs on my Windows XP client, I encountered these two errors:
| |
| |
The client had not received any security updates since these events started. For an unknown reason, the SoftwareDistribution database used by the "Automatic Updates" service had become corrupted.
Restore Automatic Updates
- Open Services.msc and stop the "Automatic Updates" service.
- Go to C:\Windows and rename or delete C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\.
- Start the "Automatic Updates" service.
As soon as the service started, my client downloaded the patches from the WSUS server.
