I am so existed this evening that I will take couple of minutes and write down my 1 hour experience with Xbox360 and Nero 8 suite. Beginning of april 2006 I was proud owner of the new Microsoft’s gaming console. I had bad experience with all my pc-games and hundreds of those never played; my decision was to stick with only one game. I bought Perfect Zero fps and since than they game sitting in my console. Couple times I tried to hook up my video content, but never succeed to stream any other content than wmv and dvd into the console; even Windows Media Center on Vista did not play anything than wmv.
Two months ago I configured my new Q6600 system and installed the eval Nero 8 suite of tools. After reading the some notes about steaming the media to Xbox360 or Playstation3 I though let’s give a try.
I configured Nero Scout and indexed the files. In the Internet Services option you can insert you favorite RSS feed casts like webradio, video, audio and image.
Than opened Nero MediaHome and started the server.
Powered the Xbox360 console and went to Media tab. Opened Video and I had some issues with getting the computer name being listed there. I was not able to delete the old computer which Xbox saw couple weeks ago and resolved the issue by starting my Windows XP machine and start sharing media in Windows Media Player 11. After the XP machine was on the network; xbox saw my Q6600 system with Nero MediaHome content. Wired but it worked out.
I started to browse the directories and opened 5 different types of wmv, divx and xvid files. All of those worked without any problem. It takes 5 to 10 seconds to buffer the file and after that the content is being streamed without any problem.
Right now I can watch my favorite geek show DL.tv directly without first copying the files to a USB disk and connecting that to my home theater usb host. It is just working.
These 4 files were manually downloaded by me, but DL.tv has a rss feed and I will tryout to hook that xml file info the Nero Scout. Couple other pics:
Are you tired to get the famous codec error on your Xbox360 console? If yes than go to Nero website and download the binaries. Some people complain Nero has become a suite off fancy tools, but having this Nero MediaHome feature there on your LAN is just something you don’t want to miss anymore.
