DPM 2007 Protection Group creation and error id 31008

After you deploy the DPM agent on a Windows Server 2003 and you try to create new protection group the wizard may come back with the following error message.

Make sure you read the following Knowledge Base article 940349 and install the VSS patch.

I have the same issue with Windows Server 2003 x64 Storage Server, but I installed the VSS patch and continue with the problem. Let me know if is necesary to install this patch in the Servers that have the agent installed?

Yes you need to install the patch on all the servers that have the agent installed.

I have the same issue with Windows Server 2003 x64 Storage Server, but I installed the VSS patch on DPM Server and the server the have the client installed and continue with the problem

Make sure you refresh the clients in the Manage tab after you apply the patch and reboot the target server. DPM server only checks the servers every 30 minutes so after you install it it may not see that it’s patched for a while.

In my case, I’m using a virtual machine.
but got similiar issue, my SQL server has been installed with KB940349-v3-x86 and had restarted many times.Do we need additional patch ?

i did the same like voss and installed the patch, but still get the same error (31008). any ideas?

I am facing the error 31008. From what we have found from Google, the solution is hotfix KB940349. We installed it in all of our server: Sharepoint server, DPM server… However, the issue still exists.
We are tired of this bug. What else do we need to solve it?
