I am managing couple of windows file servers and since our last folder migration the Shadow Copy functionality stopped working automatically. Before the migration he server was running as domain controller and file server. The domain controller role was removed and the server become a file server again.
When researching Previous Versions issue on the server I found the following error. This problem was reported by a user who tried to restore a previous copy of his file.
While looking on the server and reviewing the Event Log and I found that the ShadowCopy scheduled job for Scheduled Tasks could not start.
I delete the failed job first. I created new schedules task named ShadowCopyG with following command line:
c:\windows\system32\vssadmin.exe create shadow /autoretry=3 /for=G: c:\windows\system32
After new job was created Previous Versions copies started to show up once again.
